Face Claim: Ninomiya Asuka // iDOLM@STER: Cinderella Girls
APPEARANCE
Devin is 5'8" and has a lean and athletic build. She is trying to become a little softer, but was such a wily thing growing up that there's a lot of muscle there. She has short ginger hair that feathers out pretty much everywhere. She will wear extensions in her hair of a variety of colors depending on what she wants to do that day. The most common are orange, berry, purple, blue, and occasionally red, and even more rarely, green. Devin has bright magenta eyes that always seem to hold some kind of mischief in them.
As for style, Devin is an emo/goth chick. Most of the time she's wearing something super over the top. Gothic style lolita dresses, short plaid skirts, or any arrangement of other gothic styled clothes. But there is also the striped grey and black shirts, the hoodies, the printed band Ts. She almost always has what looks to be a repurposed dog collar around her neck, and bondage cuffs around her wrists. She likes having her nails painted, usually black but may do other colors.
PERSONALITY
Devin is a master of manipulation and passive aggression. Usually she can get whatever the hell she wants and no one really pays much mind. She can be quite stand-offish and blunt. She has quite a dirty mouth and can be quite vulgar. She isn't shy around new people and has no problem telling things like they are, or rather how she sees them. If someone picks on her, she beats the shit out of them. She is more likely to resort to violence than trying to talk things out. However, there is a huge need and desire to be loved and accepted for who she is, rather than who she is perceived to be. She really has times where she struggles with her identity and she is sure that eventually she will be more comfortable in her own skin than she currently is.
HISTORY
Devin Rivers was born Devin Rivers. However, at birth, Devin was very much a boy. Devin spent most of those formative years as a boy and never really thought much of it. He would play with his friends, run around outside, climb trees, and get into trouble playing pranks and getting dirty. He was very much a boy until he hit around 9 or so when he felt like he was somehow different than the other boys. He was much more sensitive emotionally and physically, despite always trying to be the macho type. He liked to play dress up in his mom's things, putting on her beads or funny hats. He would watch her do her makeup and demand that he wanted to be pretty too, but his father was so vehemently against it, that Devin learned to keep secrets at a very early age.
For awhile, it was just a secret between him and his mother, who always backed him up, saying that he was just a kid and that he should be able to play dress up or play makeover if he really wanted to. But his father was very insecure with his own masculinity, and one day beat the stuffing out of Devin for walking around in his mother's heels and make up. His father choked him until near unconsciousness with his mother's feather boa that he had been wearing at the time. He was beaten and crushed by the high heels that he liked so much.
His mother had his father thrown out quite quickly, having the police called and a restraining order put on the man, but the damage was done. From that day on, Devin had fought his desires to be closer to his mother, to dress up with her or be pretty with her. He hid himself away and denied himself one of the few things that he really enjoyed.
As he began to enter mid-grades, Devin fell into a niche group of the emo kids. The kids that fought conformity with the way they looked or the way that they acted. Most of them dyed their hair and painted their nails. They wore mostly black, but got outrageous about it, with skulls and chains and spikes. He went home and started going through his clothing, asking his mother for the first time in years if they could go shopping, and so they did.
But after awhile, that didn't feel quite right either. After a year and a half or so of his father's absence, he finally started to come clean to his mother again that he wanted to look at all of the cute clothes that the girls had at school. That he wanted to wear those cute heeled knee-high boots and those adorable thigh high striped socks. He wanted to have pretty hair and do his make up however he wanted to.
His mother held him as he cried into her shoulder, and she just accepted everything that Devin wanted to be. They went out shopping again, this time buying everything that Devin really wanted. She helped him do his make up and put extensions in his hair. She told him that he was beautiful no matter what and that he would always be her child.
Devin went to school the next day, proud of himself, head held high and confidence abound. He finally felt good. But it was short lived. Devin was quickly ridiculed and taken advantage of. A group of jock type boys dragged him by the hair behind the bleachers at school. They ripped his extensions out, which was quite painful, they tore his clothing right off, and said if he wanted to be a girl so badly, then he should learn what it really means. They pinned him down, took advantage of him, and beat him before just leaving him there, laughing and high-fiving amongst themselves.
It was hours before anyone found him, and he was brought home. His mother demanded retribution from the school, but none ever came. After a bit of time, Devin managed to get ahold of himself and the rage really started to fill him. It wasn't long before he began to bring a knife to school to protect himself, but he never gave up. His mother wanted him to switch schools, but he refused. Instead, he kept going, and the next time they got close, Devin fought back, carving his initials into each one of them.
This, of course, got him pulled out of school. His mother was almost ashamed of him for his actions, but she understood them. A few months later, Devin was at home, drawing or whatever he did, when a police officer came to the door with the news that his mother had been found dead. The police man didn't seem to care much about a dead dancer, but to Devin, it was the end of the world. The police contacted his father to come and get him from the station, which he hadn't really thought about either.
His father was drunk and beat the shit out of him for wearing the clothes he was, calling him a fag and telling the police that this was not his child and he wanted nothing to do with him. So Devin just demanded to go home to gather his things. So he did, gathering a few bags and running away. It was his third night on the streets when he met War. The offer was that he attend a school, finish out as much of his education as he could, but War could see the rage burning within the kid, and that he had potential.
So Devin accepted. But there was something he needed to do first. Devin broke into his father's house in the dead of night and carved his name into the drunk man's arm before disappearing into the night. That was a year ago, and Devin now portrays himself as a female with every bit of pride that he hoped his mother would have had in him.
