Face Claim: N/A
APPEARANCE
Skyler stands at 5'4", weighing about 126 pounds. He has dark blue eyes and short blue hair with long bangs, with the sides being asymmetrical. He has many ear piercings and wears a collar around his neck. He wears large jackets or loose long sleeves, even when it's hot, in an effort to hide his body from others. Skyler wears gloves to cover old scars on his hands and wrists. He wears cargo pants or jeans, so long as they don't show his legs. Sneakers are the only shoes that match the type of clothes he wears, so he only owns sneakers. (Image provided by picrew)
PERSONALITY
Skyler seeks attention constantly, but will shrivel down when he's in a social situation with more than three people due to his severe anxiety and body dysmorphic disorder. He will constantly compare himself to others, which not only makes him loathe himself further, but may cause him to lash out (usually passive aggressively) on the person he's comparing himself to. He likes to use others to keep his disorder at bay, as it makes him feel better temporarily. Skyler tends to keep to himself and scope out his competition. He's not too familiar with keeping friends, so it'll take awhile for him to warm up to others. He doesn't mean to be hurtful or rude, but his lack of social skills make him come off as an antisocial person.
HISTORY
Skyler was abandoned as a baby by his parents and moved from foster home to foster home. He watched as many of his friends and foster siblings were adopted while he was overlooked due to his chaotic personality as a child. He wanted to stand out amongst the other children, but this only made the potential parents turn away from him which became a vicious cycle. Most of the parents who came looking for a child wanted a mild-mannered kid, and he was too standoffish and loud. Constantly moving to different homes, watching other kids be picked over him, eventually these things caused Skyler to hate himself to the point that he developed depression and severe anxiety. The anxiety led to body dysmorphic disorder in his early teenage years, with him believing no one wanted him because he is ugly, too short, too skinny, or that his nose was too big, anything physical he could blame other than his understandably constant need for affection and attention. Skyler's self-destructive tendencies caused him to fail a grade, and almost failed a second time before he got himself together long enough to pass the school year. But right as he passed his first year, his toxic behaviors came back stronger than ever. He began using others or sabotaging them, all the while hurting himself in his own depressive episodes. During an anxiety-driven destructive episode, he smashed a mirror which sliced parts of his hands and arms and then cut part of his hair in the process, giving his hair an asymmetrical look. Because of this, he avoids mirrors as much as possible. At his lowest point, he ran away from his foster home to clear his mind. Skyler expected to return, as he had nowhere to go anyway. That was, until Famine approached him, bringing him to Shadowhaven School for Harbringers. He felt his life finally had purpose. Getting familiar with his surroundings and the people on the island was going to be a challenge, but Skyler finally felt an odd sense of belonging.
