| I guess you can call me "old fashioned". I prefer the book with the pages that you can actually turn. Sure, I may have to lick the tip of my fingers so that the pages don't stick together when I'm enraptured in a story that I can't wait to get to the next page. But nothing beats the sound that an actual, physical book makes when you first crack it open or the smell of new, fresh printed words on the creamy white paper of a page turner. That's where I'm walking, through pages. |
Jakuta sought to escape the hustle and bustle that was common of the academy any time between classes. This was considered his downtime but for others, it was ample chunks of scheduled horseplay. They used these moments between their learning and studying to shout across corridors and courtyard alike, run around, and just generally be a nuisance in Jakuta's opinion. He didn't have a thing for crowds, he preferred to disappear into silence and obscurity, the reasoning behind that was the same for why that was nearly impossible. The fourth year stood out like no other. His hair was as white as a lamb's and he towered over nearly everyone in the academy, even his fellow fourth years. It got old fast and boring even faster. He didn't like answering the same questions over and over again: how's the weather up there? Are you really six-and-a-half feet? Do you dye your hair? So he snuck away, choosing instead to be where others weren't. Jakuta didn't run away from others, he wasn't afraid of them, but if they had a hard time happening upon him well then that was just fine in his mind. He had slipped off to the yoga room and while Jakuta was a boy who enjoyed the relaxation the exercise brought him, he had no intention of performing a downward dog. Instead, Jakuta sat on the yoga room floor, his legs folded and tucked underneath him as he cracked open a nonfiction book and began to read. While others had moved on to kindles and smartphones for reading their books, if they even read at all, Jakuta was somewhat stuck in the past with his traditional physical cover and paper pages. There was something about turning a page physically. That rough feeling against your fingertips, the harsh sound of paper's friction against itself as it turned, even the scent. It all helped with telling the story that was printed on those pages. Reading words from a glowing screen was only appealing to Jakuta in the dead of night, there, traditional paper could not contend. He was not so pretentious that he would pretend otherwise. So he was alone. In the yoga studio. Reading a book. The world around him almost oblivious to his existence. words: 377 • tags: --- • notes: stuff

[attr="class","boxtext"] [attr="class","boxtext2"] [attr="class","bttitle"]Finnegan O'Connor [attr="class","textline"] The third year had finished a few of his classes for the day, now having about an hour to relax before his next class was up. He had been on his way to the library to go check out a book on one of the courses he was taking, but there was too many people in the halls during the intermission between classes that he just didn't find it in him to fight against the crowd to get to the library. So he had found himself outside, hands resting on the back of his head with his fingers laced together. He hummed a little in thought before he moved off to the side and looked around. It was hot out, so he didn't really want to wait around outside but perhaps... His head tilted when he had spotted a head of white moving towards where some of the club buildings were located. Oh? Now what was this? He remained where he was for about a minute or two in contemplation on whether to follow or not before he shrugged and dropped his hands to his sides. Might as well see where this person was going and what they were doing. He skirted around some people as he tailed this person, only pausing at the entrance to the yoga studio for a few moments before he opened the door and poked his head in. Now what would this person be doing in here? Reading it seemed. Well, that was an...interesting place to read a book. He entered and quietly shut the door behind him, looking around before he turned his attention back to the other male before him. He seemed tall, even from how he was sitting, and he also had white hair as well. Now that was interesting indeed. He waited for a few more minutes to see if he'd be noticed at all before he eventually walked over and crouched before him, clearing his throat a little. "Interesting place to read, I heard the library has more books on hand." He spoke up, a friendly smile crossing his face as he tilted his head to the side a little. "So I have to ask...do you come here often to read?"
